LESSON PLAN

Title of Lesson: Planning Parks
Date: 11/15/2010 Timeframe of Lesson: 2-3Days
Author(s): Ms. Tammy Rhody & Mrs. Lisa Kastengren
School District: Waterford Graded School District
Campus: Fox River Middle School
Subject Area(s): Math 8 (CMP – Connected Mathematics Program)
Grade Level(s)/Course: 8th Grade
State Standards
8G (as newly adopted format from June 2, 2010)
Subject Specific: Students will be able to categorize polygons by their sides and angles.
Students will be able to draw shapes on a coordinate grid. Students will be able to connect properties of figures to coordinate representation.

Technology Specific:
Media & Technology – “Students in Wisconsin will select and use media and technology to access, organize, create, and communicate information for solving problems and constructing new knowledge, products, and systems.”
Stated Objective(s)
Review properties of quadrilaterals.
Connect properties of figures to coordinate representations
Draw shapes on a coordinate grid.
Procedures for Lesson
Work on Smartboard to answer beginning questions. Ask for students input. Ask students to think about what they know about a quadrilateral, parallelogram, rectangle, and square. Ask for students to come to the board to drag what they think describes each figure. Review why each answer is correct or incorrect. Ask students to work in groups on the “Explore Activity”. After work time is through, ask students to come to the board and review each problem with the class. Watch BrainPop with class to help them decipher what slope helps you determine for each of those figures. Summarize what they have learned from this section. Head to computer lab to work on classzone activity on their own. Instruct students to work on homework from the book when they are finished with their two activities.
Assessment or Evaluation
Assess their knowledge by how well they do on the classzone activity. Also, grade homework to see how well they understand the material from this lesson on their own.
Enrichment
Group work on finding different ways of drawing parks on a coordinate grid.
